Native Student Organization
Constitution and Bylaws
Article I
Name
This organization shall be known as the Native Student Organization
at Lake Superior State University.
Article II
Purpose and Function
-
We, the Native American students of Lake Superior State University,
hereby band together for the purpose of academic and social support.

To work towards greater representation and input in matters relevant
to LSSU's Native American students.

To provide decision-making leadership, direction, resources, and encouragement
for the Native students.

To serve as a coordinating body of all functions for Native American
students on campus.

To act as a liaison with other student organizations on campus.
-
To provide assistance to students through social and academic support.

To hold meetings and organize functions for students.
Article III
Nominations, Election and Membership

Election of officers shall take place in the spring of each year.

Special elections will be held if an officer must leave his/her office
prior to the ending of his/her term.

For the purpose of membership, any student who has signed the membership
roster shall be considered a member.

For the purpose of election:
-
All group members full or part-time shall be eligible for nomination.
-
The student must be a registered member of the Native Student
Organization on or before the deadline for nominations transpires.

The student must be registered as a full or part-time student
at LSSU.
Article IV
Duties of Officers
-
The President and Vice-President are responsible for scheduling and
conducting meetings for the organizations. Should the President be absent
the Vice-President shall conduct the meeting.

The secretary shall be responsible for minutes of the meetings, records
of all projects and actions taken by the group.

The treasurer shall be respinsible for the funds of the group and shall
keep a record of its receipts and expenditures.

The seargeant of arms shall be respoinsible for maintaining order at
meetings. He/she shall refer to the student group constitution for questions
of procedures.
Article V
Procedures
-
Each meeting shall have a short agenda that will be posted prior to
the meeting.
-
Minutes of all meetings shall be posted for student review.
-
All decisions made during a meeting shall b e carried with a majority
of those members present.
